Strong Start second round wants more volunteers

The Strong Start program provides one-on-one coaching, in the school during the school day, to students up to grade 2 who have not yet mastered beginning reading skills. Volunteer coaches spend 30 minutes per student per week for 10 weeks, playing games and helping solve puzzles that vary each week. This year (like most years), more coaches are available in the fall than in the winter, but the needs are now more apparent. The program is designed for volunteers who have no prior experience, but two 2-hour training classes are given, most conveniently on February 20th and 27th at Prueter Public School. For more information, please see https://www.strongstart.ca/programs/letters-sounds-and-words/volunteer/, where you can also sign up for classes. For specific questions about the program at Lincoln Heights, please contact Sharon Shadaan, sharon_shadaan@wrdsb.ca or Trevor Pollitt, knollbrook28@netzero.com.
