Dress:
– Please ensure your children are dressed for the weather! We try to allow the children outdoor time whenever possible.
Morning:
– If it is too cold, we will bring students in early before school but we have to wait until we have adequate suprvision which is after approximately 8:20am.
Recess:
– There is a need to ensure the safety and well-being of students. During severe weather conditions, the safety of students is the primary concern. Recess provides a necessary break for students where physical activity and socialization refresh students and help them to be more successful in the learning activities that follow a recess break. We will allow outdoor recess whenever possible. We do not have the staff capacity to safely supervise some children to be outside, while others stay inside depending on their preference.
The decision regarding outdoor/indoor recess is made considering these factors; Local weather reports. Both temperature and wind conditions are both considered. In general, when the “wind chill” factor is approximately between -20º C and -27º C, we ensure that local mitigating circumstances (e.g., wind) make it safe to send students outside even for short periods of time. When temperatures fall at or below -27º C, breaks will occur indoors only.

We may discuss the plans of neighbouring schools as part of our decision-making process.
Input from staff members will always be considered as well.
Hope this information helps.
