On Earth Day, students are invited to Walk for the Earth! This year, the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), in partnership with Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) encourages students and families to take part in Walk for the Earth on April 22!

Walk for the Earth

Spring is the perfect time to get active outdoors and brush off the winter blues! Students are encouraged to walk, bike or wheel to and from school to cut down on emissions and traffic near the school.

Many people driving to school drive less than 1 kilometre. Avoiding driving just 15 kilometres every week eliminates about 213 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions a year!

How You Can Participate

All WRDSB students, staff and families are invited to participate in Walk for the Earth! As an added bonus, students can register online for a chance to win an Earth Day prize package!

Students Who Don’t Walk to School

These students can participate, too!

  • Students who ride the bus are encouraged to walk to and from their bus stops
  • Remote learners are encouraged to take some time throughout their day to walk around their neighbourhood
  • Students who are usually driven are encouraged to walk from a few blocks away

Happy travels this Earth Day!
